What is Great Days of Service?

Great Days of Service is a faith-based, interdenominational association of Irving churches which are united in serving God and community by renewing neighborhoods and aiding homeowners in the restoration of their properties.  In the GDS’ first campaign in 2002, the organization focused on Grauwyler Heights, a neighborhood that is pro-active about its renewal and that reaches out in a caring and community spirit.

The GDS effort grew in 2003 to help 20 homeowners, involve 8 various denominational churches and raise over $5,000 of private contributions.

The 2004 effort involved 12 homeowners, 8 churches and over $10,000 of contributions.

In 2005, over 20 projects were accomplished and over $15,000 contributed. 2006 again saw over 20 homes worked on to make life better for the homeowners.

Again in 2007 over 20 homeowners in Irving were helped by the Great Days of Service.

The group worked on over 31 homes in various areas of Irving during the 2008 projects.

In 2009 was another successful year with 30 homeowners served.

Since the inception, the GDS effort has helped over 150 homeowners in the City of Irving. Various churches and affiliated organizations are involved, with over $65,000 in private contribuions raised.

2009 Accomplishments

The 2009 Great Days of Service had over 425 volunteers, work on 30 different homes in the Irving area. This year teams from the 13 associated churches, and Nimitz HS athletes helped redo the homes. Residing, painting, trash removal, plumbing and many other tasks has made life better for many home owners.

The Vision Impact Team would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped.

What you can do

Volunteer to give of your time and talents in “hands-on repairs” or many other ways.

Contribute money and/or encourage your church or group to give.

      Pass the word; tell others.

Pray for the success of Great Days of Service, that it will be a blessing to those who volunteer and those who are helped ---that it will show God’s love and draw us closer as a community.
